TV. long way round

over the weekend i happened to catch this great show. here is the set up: ewan mcgregor and his buddy charley boorman decide they want to go around the world on motorcycles. this series captures their adventure starting in london and follows them through europe into kazakhstan, mongolia, russia, then on a plane to alaska, through canada, and finally ending up in new york. i remember hearing about this on the news when it was happening, so it was kind of cool to just happen to catch it on tv (they were showing a marathon of the whole series, so i missed the first one).
it was really fun to watch, to see the places they drove through, and also the people that they met. they would usually rely on the kindness of strangers for a place to stay for the night, which leads to some very interesting encounters... we also see all the hardships and struggles these guys had to go through. there were motorcycle problems, injuries, even times when they were faced with the fact that a road is covered in five feet of running gushing water. one fo the best parts of the show was just to see these two guys living out this fun journey. it is very obvious that they are very good friends and genuinely love and respect each other. their optimistic attitudes and sharp sense of humor keep the show entertaining and lively. by the final episode i was sad to see it come to an end (as were the two of them). i hear that there is a longer version of the show coming out on dvd that includes about three more hours of their trip. ill have to keep my eyes out for that.
